Protecting the resources of life

We all need clean water to drink, healthy soil to grow food, and clean air to breathe. We all share the same elements of nature, no matter who we are or where we come from.

When we lose our connection to nature, these simple facts are easily forgotten, along with our sense of responsibility toward protecting our planet. Through the Global Guardians education program, children can reconnect with nature, experience how everything is interconnected and develop the skills to care for the natural world around them.

Situation in Nepal

Increasing environmental challenges

Nepal is facing a range of environmental challenges from land degradation, soil erosion, and water pollution to severe air pollution and increasing climate-related disasters such as floods, landslides, and droughts.

While these issues are impacting the health and lives of the entire population, education in schools about solutions remains scarce. Environmental topics are taught only sporadically, and mainly theoretically. Extracurricular programs are rare, and children are spending less time in nature and increasingly more time in front of their screens.

The spaces and tools needed to understand and respond to the environmental challenges are simply missing and consequently so is the awareness of how their own actions connect to environmental and health issues.

Our aim

A new generation of Global Guardians

Through the Global Guardians education program, children reconnect with the elements of nature and develop the confidence and responsibility to care for the planet and each other.

Through practical learning, they discover how air, water, soil, and all living beings are connected and how their actions have an effect on the world around them. When children experience how everything is interconnected, they stop seeing nature as something separate from themselves and start seeing themselves as part of it. Children who feel connected to nature will naturally want to protect it.

The long-term vision is to bring this curriculum to kindergartens and schools internationally, raising a generation that understands from an early age that caring for the planet and shaping a shared future go hand in hand.

Our approach

Learning not just in theory but in practice

Children can experiment, discover and learn how to care for their environment through the following activities:

  • Global Guardians Workshops: Outdoor sessions with nature exploration, tree planting, upcycling, and sustainability lessons
  • School Gardens: Practical learning spaces for sustainable farming, soil health, and nutrition, with harvests feeding directly into school meals
  • Local Change Agents: Young community members trained as facilitators, bringing the program to life in their own neighborhoods
  • School Clubs: Regular student meetings to plan activities and channel youth voices into local decision-making
  • Sustainable School Management Plans: Helping schools embed climate resilience and sustainability into their long-term planning
  • Youth Festival: A World Environment Day celebration where students showcase their work and proudly claim their role as Global Guardians
