Orientation program to empower young women in Nepal
Akasha Traineeship is a unique orientation and education program to empower young women in Nepal. With the aim to “Educate. Enable. Empower.”, the program creates space for the participants to discover their abilities, find their own path in life and develop a broader understanding of current challenges and how to contribute to a positive change in their surroundings.

Situation in Nepal
Limited opportunities
For many women in Nepal, education ends after high school, and socioeconomic pressures often make early marriage the only perceived future. This leads to financial dependency and increased vulnerability to abuse. Gender inequality and gender-based violence remain widespread and affect women of all ages.
Additionally, the rural communities in Nepal suffer from multiple interdependent problems, such as lack of proper healthcare, insufficient nutrition, environmental pollution, alcoholism and stigmatization, which is why these topics are addressed in the curriculum.
Our aim
Educate. Enable.
Empower.
The Akasha Traineeship provides a safe space for young women to discover their strengths, and develop the confidence to find their path in life. Through a practical, interdisciplinary approach, young women learn to use their skills and knowledge not only within their own professional career giving them financial independence, but also for the benefit of the whole community.
With the multiple pressing global challenges, our planet needs strong compassionate role models to drive positive change. Women naturally have the capacity to unfold this. There are many examples from all over the world that show: Where women rise, the whole community thrives.
Our approach
Change agents for the communities
Young women are trained in the topics related to health, environment, communication and community engagement. They also receive physical training and career counceling throughout the program, which ends in a practical job internship at a place of their choice. The program consists of lessons both in theory and practice.
During the Traineeship, students learn how to pass on their knowledge to the local communities, for example through health awareness, environmental workshops, and theatre on taboo subjects. These activities also boost women’s self-confidence as they become change agents within their communities.
Where we need your help
We are especially grateful for the long-standing support of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). However, while this support is essential, it does not cover the full costs of our work. A significant share of our activities still depends on additional funding and contributions to ensure that Akasha Traineeship program can continue and grow.
