Annual review 2024

January 6, 2025

Creating opportunities for people to reconnect with nature and themselves is the goal of our work. For this purpose, Akasha Academy provides space where people can regenerate, learn and grow. Thanks to your ongoing support in 2024, we were able to significantly expand our activities in Germany and Nepal.

Establishing a new social business in Germany – Space to connect and reconnect

In May, we launched the Akasha Academy gGmbH focusing on practical environmental education, health and women empowerment. With the successful start of a diverse event program, we made the first step to grow our services in the years ahead. Events like Akasha Nada, Herbal walks, Akasha Network sessions helped people to slow down and regenerate, connect with nature and become part of the Akasha network.

New collaboration to protect whales and the ocean – Sounds of the Ocean

Our “Clear the Path for Whales” project shows that everything is part of nature and has its own role. The project helps people to understand how our breath is linked to the ocean, especially to whales. Through our new partnership with “Sounds of the Ocean”, we’re raising awareness about this important topic through art. Several educational art events in Europe and Nepal helped both children and adults see that ocean protection is a global responsibility.

Empowering women in Nepal – empowering communities

The third year of the Akasha Traineeship ended in September, and a new group of 14 excited young ladies have already started their journey. One of the highlights of the new cohort was the field visit to the Living Mountain Lab where they learned about sustainable farming, innovative technologies and biodiversity. These experiences help them grow into strong role models in their communities. Our newly opened tea garden provided the perfect venue to celebrate all the success together with the alumni of the last years.

In just two months after its opening, the tea garden has become a popular spot for the local community in Suntakhan and a safe space for women to gather and connect. It hosts regular classes, from educational events and arts workshops to cooking and fitness sessions, all of which are well-received by the locals.

Global guardian’s program has started in Nepal

The pilot project in Nepal aims to empower children and young people to become involved in local, sustainable food systems. Through play, they are learning to observe the elements of nature and recognize the connection within the agricultural and food system. In the first hands-on workshop, 40 students from 2 different schools discovered earth, water, fire and air with all their senses at the headquarters. This experience will strengthen their inner understanding and natural self-confidence.

Planting trees in Nepal to fight climate change and pollution

This summer, with the help of local communities and schools, we planted 1500 trees across the Bagmati river Corridor, Suntakhan and Tarevir. As these young trees grow, they will help combat air pollution, reduce heat, and prevent landslides.

Improving health in Nepalese communities

For the third year in a row, Akasha Academy has organized a health camp for Nepalese communities. This year a record number of 220 people used services such as general check-ups, consultations and medication. Our Akasha Traineeship students offered counseling on healthy nutrition to raise awareness about the positive impact of a healthy diet.

Healthy Schools campaign reached more children than expected

Thanks to your support, we raised 15 000 EUR and were able to provide education packages to 900 students from 8 different schools in Nepal over the past weeks – 300 more than we had planned! With winter clothing and school uniforms, we help the children to regularly attend school and to stay warm and healthy during the cold winter season. Healthy, handmade baked goods from our bakery and awareness sessions on nutrition we could offer to even more kids. The support will help them grow up in a healthy way and focus on their studies.

Construction of the student housing at the headquarters in Nepal has started

After the bamboo pavilion at the Akasha Academy headquarters, the student housing will be the second major example of sustainable building combining a modern approach with ancient building tradition. After a careful planning phase, the construction has now started.

Once completed, the housing will provide a safe space for students traveling long distances or facing difficult family situations.

Offering the gift of life

Generosity and offering others what they need is an important motivation for our work. The Tshethar ritual, where animals threatened with death are given a life in freedom, is expression of that.

We are happy that this precious ancient practice performed by TK Rinpoche could take place once again. It attracted a record number of people this year. After receiving TK Rinpoche’s blessing, 3000 trouts were given a life in freedom in the river Würm. Kids were particularly eager to help the fish find their way.
