Freedom of Choice Education Fund

Support students and enable a positive change in Nepal

Protecting life on our planet requires courage, financial resources and well-educated people. The Freedom of Choice Education Fund enables young Nepalis to access education, find practical solutions to today’s challenges and bring about positive change in their communities. Your donation helps to financially support the education of Nepalese youth – flexible, fast and according to individual needs.

Goals

>25

students supported with scholarships and accommodation every year

>500

school children reached with education activities every year

>250

people from the communities reached by workshops and awareness campaigns every year

Our aim

Educate. Enable. Empower.

Today, more than ever, well-educated young people are needed in order to make a positive change in developing countries like Nepal.

Our aim is to offer education and empower people through scholarships, trainings and workshops  on pressing topics so they can develop the capacity to face the multiple global and local challenges.

The fund enables flexible and fast support e.g. covering costs for accomodation during internships & studies, financing studies and trainings, and providing school uniforms for pupils who can’t afford them.

We especially aim to support young women from underprivileged families who are motivated to study and create a positive impact.

We are committed to the following SDGs:

Situation in nepal

Inequality and lack of awareness

In Nepal, the standard level of education is still low. Due to lack of financial means, many cannot pursue higher education. Even access to public schools is not granted for children from poor backgrounds.

Especially girls are disadvantaged and many of them drop-out from school early. This makes them vulnerable to physical, economic, and mental abuse.

The lack of education and knowledge about basic health and environment topics creates a vicious cycle. Many health, societal and environmental issues that could be solved by education are still prevalent in many communities in Nepal.

Our approach

Creating conditions for Freedom of Choice

Freedom of Choice is the aim for all education programs and activities of Akasha Academy. It means having access to unadulterated information, having the ability to distinguish facts from opinions and having confidence to make one’s own choices in life.

Through proper education and analysis based on facts, people can realize the impact of their actions and develop the confidence required to break harmful attitudes and habits – thus creating space for a positive change to occur.

This way, education just for one student can start a positive domino effect that sparks a change in a whole community.

Student Testimonial

“Doing physical training is still uncommon for Nepalese women. During the classes at Akasha Traineeship, we discovered how our self-confidence and health increased by building up physical strength. The Freedom of Choice education fund covered the cost of our training to become fitness trainers ourselves. Now we can train the new generations and support many women to become strong and empowered.”

Bunusha & Dibika

Student Testimonial

“I started working part-time on the model farm for regenerative agriculture at Akasha Academy already during high-school. With the support of the education fund, I have been able to continue my studies with a Bachelors degree in social studies. In parallel I continue my work at Akasha Academy and I received financial support to attend various trainings regarding permaculture and sustainable agriculture. The studies increase my skills to conduct related workshops and education programs for locals to spread the knowledge of what I have learned myself.”
