Clean water for Suntakhan

January 1, 2018

In 2017, Long Yang e.V. has restored the drinking water supply of the region Suntakhan together with Akasha Academy NGO and the village committee.

The region Suntakhan was hit hard by the earthquakes in 2015. Among other damages, the complete water supply system for 80 households had been destroyed. Therefore, the people had to walk far distances to fetch water, and often the water quality was questionable. Agriculture in the region, which is the main source of income for many, had also suffered from the difficult water supply. In total, 400 people were directly affected.

In 2017, Long Yang e.V. has worked with its partner organization Akasha Academy NGO and the village committee in Suntakhan to restore the drinking water supply. Together with the people of Suntakhan, we have built two water tanks that can supply up to 50,000 liters of drinking water per day in any season. The entire system is earthquake-proof and collects high-quality water from surrounding springs. In addition to the efforts of the volunteers, the water project was largely supported by funds from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, as well as other institutional donors (such as Lions Club Ammersee) and individual donors. The project was also supported by civil engineers from the municipality of Gorkaneshwor. In several project visits, we were able to observe the good progress of the contruction. The project was successfully completed within three months by end of 2017.
